Stephen Curry’s NBA Comedy ‘Trick Shot’ in the Works From ‘Uncle Drew’ Writer

The sports-focused feature from Curry’s Unanimous Media includes David Henrie as a producer.

Stephen Curry has netted a new scripted project as the basketball superstar continues making inroads as a Hollywood playmaker.

Curry’s producing banner Unanimous Media and David Henrie‘s Cedar Hill are developing the basketball-focused comedy feature Trick Shot. A director has yet to be attached to the film that has a script from Jay Longino, whose previous writing credits include Uncle Drew (2018) and Skiptrace (2016).

Trick Shot centers on a middle school student who is dismal at basketball until a freak accident occurs, and he suddenly can’t miss a shot. His newfound hoops talent leads him to become an unexpected NBA rookie, where he is soon an integral member of his favorite team.

Producers include Curry and Erick Peyton for Unanimous Media, David Henrie and James Henrie for Cedar Hill, and Ben Everard for Everard Entertainment. Longino and Unanimous Brian Testuro Ivie serve as executive producers.

Curry is a four-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors and is widely regarded as one of the sport’s greatest shooters. Curry is involved with several Hollywood projects, including the forthcoming Peacock mockumentary series Mr. Throwback which counts him as star and executive producer, and he recently served as executive producer on the Netflix animated series Good Times. He was the focus of the sports documentary Stephen Curry: Underrated, which launched on Apple TV+ last year.

David Henrie got his start as a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 actor on the Disney Channel series The Wizards of Waverly Place opposite Selena Gomez and is set to reprise his role on the new spinoff show Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. He will also play a younger version of former President Ronald Reagan in the movie Reagan, slated for release later this year with Dennis Quaid as the title character’s older self.

“We’re excited to continue Unanimous Media’s storytelling in sports with Trick Shot, a fun and spirited project that brings us back to the big dreams we had as kids,” said Peyton and Curry in a joint statement. “Working alongside our partners, we’re excited to develop this story to warm the hearts of audiences, showing what happens when the impossible becomes reality.”

Calling the project “a dream come true,” Everard added, “Trick Shot is the ultimate wish fulfillment movie — a middle schooler so impressive he joins the huddle of the Golden State Warriors. The only way to improve on such a fun idea is to join forces with the perfect partner to realize the vision — Stephen Curry, the greatest shooter in NBA history, and Erick Peyton and the brilliant team at Unanimous.”
