Adam Sandler hints Tiger Woods and John Daly could appear in new Happy Gilmore movie sequel: ‘You never know what is going to happen’

Actor Adam Sandler is plotting his dream cast for his sequel to Happy Gilmore and it could involve some very familiar faces to golf fans.

The 57-year-old Hollywood star is giving his 1996 cult classic golf movie the reboot treatment, revealing in March that ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ is in the works.

Fans may have to wait a while for the sequel to the slapstick golf flick as Sandler admitted he is still finessing the final product.

He told Dan Patrick on the sportscaster’s eponymous show that he is still tweaking the potential plot but has plenty of ideas to ‘zero in’ on.

And some of the game’s most famous faces and colorful characters, including Tiger Woods, could be scripted into those ideas.

Sandler also revealed that John Daly could make a cameo after providing inspiration for storylines.

The star of the screen said that longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy headed down to Louisville, Kentucky for the PGA Championship last week where he chatted with the cigarette-puffing, diet coke-chugging two-time major winner.

‘I would like to think so,’ Sandler said of Daly when Patrick asked if the golfer would have a role in the movie. ‘I love him. I’ve always loved him.’

Sandler is set to reprise his role Happy Gilmore, and confirmed that the plot, while unfinished, will see the beloved titular character still out on the course.

He said the reboot would revolve around the golfer ‘being a little older now and still trying to compete with the youngsters.’

Lee Trevino was the only golfer of note to have a role in the original, while TV personality Bob Barker, who passed away last year, and sports commentator Verne Lundquist, who called his final Masters tournament last month, made notable cameos.

Christopher McDonald, the veteran actor who portrayed Gilmore’s rival golfer in the original, first tipped off fans in March when he told 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland that he has seen a rough draft.

Patrick – who has appeared in no fewer than 10 Sandler movies – had responded to the news by texting his friend, Sandler, to ask how much time he should take off in 2024 for a Gilmore sequel.

‘A few days,’ Sandler responded, as retold on Patrick’s eponymous podcast. ‘But I’ll let you know when there’s a script. Still figuring a lot out.’

Sandler told the former SportsCenter anchor that he will again be asked to appear in the film – only this time, Patrick will play himself.

‘You’re in it, bro,’ Sandler told Patrick. ‘You play you.’

Patrick first entered the Sandler universe decades earlier, when his former co-anchor Keith Olbermann passed on a role in the original Happy Gilmore, according to the New York Post.

‘Well, the next time you need someone from ESPN, I’m your guy,’ Patrick told Sandler at a Knicks game, the Post reported.

‘You’re in my next movie,’ Sandler shot back. ‘You’re Danny McF***ing Patrick, and you’re gonna wear a mustache and be a police officer.’
