Striker Kylian Mbappe asked a lawyer to intervene because PSG refused to pay him $87 million, when the contract between the two sides was about to expire.

Last year, Mbappe informed PSG that he would not renew his contract, leaving for free in the summer of 2024. At that time, the French captain was isolated from the first team by PSG, with the risk of sitting out the entire season. To be allowed to return to play, Mbappe agreed to refuse to accept a “loyalty fee” of $87 million. It is not excluded that in this agreement, PSG will still pay Mbappe’s loyalty fee in certain cases.

In February 2024, PSG still paid 87 million USD for Mbappe, according to L’Equipe . President Nasser Al Khelaifi and his colleagues explained that PSG did so in the hope that Real Madrid would return the same amount of money to the French club to sign a contract with the 26-year-old star. However, President Florentino Perez affirmed that Real will not pay a single penny to the player whose contract with PSG will expire at the end of June 2024.

Khelaifi was not satisfied with Perez’s decision, and this caused even more disagreement between the two leaders. The PSG president has disliked his counterpart at Real for many years.

Therefore, in retaliation, PSG deliberately “forgot” to pay Mbappe’s April 2024 salary , and a bonus that expires at the end of February 2024. This salary bonus corresponds to 87 million USD, exactly the amount the team paid the “loyalty fee” to the French striker.

In recent days, lawyers from both sides have continuously contacted each other via email. Mbappe’s lawyer demands that the team pay 87 million USD in salary and bonus owed to him. And the team’s lawyer wants to write a written agreement about Mbappe’s refusal to accept a loyalty fee last summer.

Mbappe became famous at Monaco Club, before moving to play for PSG in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee of 195 million USD, the second highest in history. He scored 256 goals in 308 matches for PSG, winning 15 titles, but no Champions League. The 26-year-old striker is expected to become a Real player from July 1, 2024.
