In the bigger scheme of things, the alleged plot of Captain America: Brave New World can also explain why Sam never tried to get involved in Secret Invasion. Part of the Skrulls’ attempt to take over Earth was their plan to pit the USA and Russia against each other. Given his stint as Captain America, it’s odd that he seemed unbothered by the brewing global crisis in the Disney+ show. If Ross is really benching him, then it could explain why Sam didn’t try to help Nick Fury.
Only time will tell if this Captain America: Brave New World rumor is actually true. If it ends up panning out, however, it’s difficult not to agree with fans in saying that this narrative has been done before. Considering how long it has taken for Sam to return to the MCU since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he deserves more than a tired storyline for his first movie.
