Jon Rahm suffers an injury scare just one week before the US Open as two-time major winner withdraws from LIV Golf Houston mid-round

Jon Rahm has suffered an injury scare just one week ahead of the next major of the year at Pinehurst.

The two-time major winner withdrew midway through the second round of LIV Golf’s latest tournament in Houston Saturday.

Playing his first tournament since missing the cut at the PGA Championship last month, the Spaniard had appeared to struggle through the opening round Friday but managed to complete all 18 holes to card a three-under 69.

However, he seemingly couldn’t battle through the pain any longer as he he withdrew just six holes into the second round.

Rahm had appeared in discomfort after wincing following his tee shot on the par-three seventh at the Golf Club of Houston during the first round.

His withdrawal comes less than a week before the start of the US Open, the third major of the year.

Rahm is slated to be one of 12 LIV players heading to Pinehurst, where he will look to improve upon his performances at major championships this year.

He put up a lackluster defense of his Green Jacket at The Masters in April, managing a mere tie for 45th at August National.

He followed it up with an even worse showing at Valhalla last month, when he failed to even make it to the weekend.

Rahm would have been looking to bounce back at the US Open – where he claimed his first major title in 2021, becoming the first Spaniard to win the tournament – but to do so, he will be hoping to heal in time.
