Thank You to This Foundation for Anne Hathaway’s Perfect Complexion in “The Idea of You”

Her makeup artist told me it gives a “glowing and dewy finish.”

I love learning about which foundations celebrities use because no matter how good their natural skin is, it’s never totally flawless and poreless. Bits of information like Reese Witherspoon and I wearing the same complexion product and Helen Mirren’s concealer being just $13 are vital to the pleasure center of my brain. And thanks to a conversation with Anne Hathaway’s on-set makeup artist on The Idea of You, I have a new tidbit of information: the actress wore Chanel No. 1 de Revitalizing Foundation.

Celebrity makeup artist Nana Fischer told me she used this to provide Hathaway with a “beautiful, glowing, and dewy finish without appearing heavy.” Another reason Fischer liked using it on set is because it “mixes well with serums and oils, which is a combination that works well for achieving a healthy and radiant look.”

Although Chanel has a slew of famous and classic makeup products, this is not one of them. The No. 1 line was launched a couple of years ago and consists of skincare-makeup hybrid products per the long-lasting trend. The star ingredient in the line, and this foundation, is red camellia extract. The brand says it has “revitalizing powers and extraordinary energy” that gives way to “perennial youth.” That last phrase is perhaps a little bit of an exaggeration, but there is some science to back up the claims of this ingredient’s benefits. Studies have found that it promotes collagen production and protects from environmental aggressors (which can accelerate signs of aging).

As for the cosmetic part of this foundation comes in 29 buildable shades with a natural finish. It’ll give you radiant skin instantly, but thanks to the red camellia extract, a plumper complexion in the long run, too.

Chanel No. 1 de Revitalizing Foundation rings in at $75 — which is not chump change — but hundreds of five-star ratings indicate that shoppers think it’s worth it. One shopper called it “perfect for mature women.” Another shopper who is on their second bottle said it lasts 10 hours and called it “smoothing and perfecting.” One final 81-year-old shopper wrote, “it makes my skin look younger — very smooth, illuminating, and moisturizing.”

Head to Chanel to shop the No. 1 de Revitalizing Foundation used on Anne Hathaway, which is loved by shoppers.
