Elon Musk said he does not rule out the possibility of developing a smartphone called X, in the context of his threat to ban iPhones and Apple devices in his company.
On June 11, user Warren Redlich posted: “X will cooperate with Samsung to produce X phone.”
“That’s not beyond calculation,” Musk responded the same day.
Musk’s comments came after he criticized Apple for bringing OpenAI’s AI model to iPhones, iPads, Macs… According to him, Apple will “not know what really happens when it hands over data to OpenAI.” .
“If OpenAI is integrated at the operating system level, Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation,” Musk said.
This isn’t the first time Musk has mentioned creating a new phone. In 2022, when Apple threatened to remove the Twitter application from the App Store, he said he would create a smartphone model to compete with the iPhone.
According to Business Insider , if you produce smartphones, naming the device X is not surprising because Musk has a great passion for the letter X. The billionaire founded the financial and payment services company X.com in 1999. then merged with Paypal. In 2002, he continued to open the aerospace company SpaceX. At the end of 2022, after taking over Twitter, he launched X Corp and then changed the name of the social network to X. In early July 2023, Musk announced the company xAI with the ambition to develop an alternative to ChatGPT.
In 2020, Musk and singer Grimes announced that they would name their 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 X Æ A-12. Grimes said X stands for “unknown variable.” However, this name was not legal under California law, so the two later changed it to X Æ A-XII .
