‘They just want us out!’ cries family given 60 days to leave home – landlord is ‘using legal loophole to make a buck’

A FATHER has revealed that he’s been evicted from his apartment without any fault of his own and now had days to pack his family and leave.

In May, Devin O’Dea was told he and his family had 60 days to leave his California apartment, after living in the complex for over a decade.

“The reason that they gave was for a substantial remodel. It seems like they just want to get everybody out,” O’Dea told ABC affiliate KFMB-TV.

“We lived here for 11 years. We have two small 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren. I’ve got a one-year-old and a four-year-old.

“Our daughter’s starting school in public school this year, so that’s an added complication.”

O’Dea speculates that the apartments are being turned into short-term rentals.

The complex was bought last year by Rosemont Windansea LLC.

Shortly after, an investment firm called, Paragon Management Company LLC, applied for licenses to convert the apartments into short-term vacation rentals.

The father of two revealed that he heard about the apartments being converted through vacation rental data expert, Jay Goldberg, who told him about license applications brought by the license firm that purchased his property.

“Several of the names of the people on the licenses are the same last names as the owners of this investment firm,” said Goldberg.

He revealed multiple apartment units can be converted to vacation rentals using a loophole in the city’s ordinance.

“A person can only have one license. It could be any person, though,” he told the station.

“So, if you’re an owner with five properties, if you can find five different people to put their names and phone numbers down as owners of that license, they will get that license.”

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Rosemont Windansea LLC and Paragon Management Company LLC for comment.

‘WE DID EVERYTHING RIGHT’

Believe it or not, there are people across the country getting evicted without any explanation.

A couple living in Grand Blanc Township mobile home park in Michigan, have become one of many who were evicted and given a few weeks to leave.

“There’s another family that’s been here I think they said 8 years that the same thing is going on to. 8 years in one place, you have to be a good renter to do that,” Mackenzie Harris told local ABC affiliate WJRT.

Harris lives in a tiny home with her partner Davonta Grant.

The couple said they both received a letter from the park saying they couldn’t renew their lease, however, they were never told why.

“Every rent has been paid,” said Harris.

“Like there’s no issues as far as that is concerned. I keep our home very clean. I definitely take pride in our home, so it’s definitely very confusing.”

The pair lived in their home for four years and admitted they have got accustomed to it.

When they asked the leasing manager about the situation, they couldn’t explain why either but instead offered to move them into a different home on the property.

“We did everything right. Paid our bills on time, and yet they’re coming around to give us the boot with no explanation still,” said Grant.
