Tom Ford has money to burn. Specifically, at least US$1.1 billion, according to Forbes, which estimates that’s how much the esteemed fashion designer will pocket after his US$2.8 billion ($3.98 billion) deal to sell his eponymous fashion and beauty business to Estée Lauder. The deal, which was finalised late last year, gives Ford a new lease on life—and probably a lot of free time to dedicate to his various properties, as well as his son, Jack. It’s certainly helped him snap up a new addition to his portfolio, a $72.5 million (US$51 million) mansion in Palm Beach, Florida.

According to Dirt.com, Ford bought the 10,175 square-foot property from Rob Heyvaert, founder of investment firm Motive partners, who bought the property in August 2021 for $50.8 million (US$35.8 million). With Ford forking over $21.6 million (US$15.2 million) more for the property, we’d have to assume Heyvaert has spent some serious cash on renovating the place before flipping it to the designer and film director. Certainly, given Ford’s impeccable taste and fastidious reputation, we’d expect the interiors and finishes to be nothing short of perfection.

With architecture by Daniel Kahan and interiors by Penelope Irwin, the five-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion was built by Jim Held and Kenn Karakul in 2016. Located in a swanky area near Lake Worth Lagoon, the compound features two single-storey homes on a 0.96-acre lot. Described as “classical, yet modern”, the home features opulent and contemporary features such as high ceilings, bleached oak floorboards, and a number of French doors which open out onto an immaculate courtyard.

Flanked by palm trees, the garden features landscaping by Mario Nievera and an outdoor area that includes a lap pool and decked entertaining space. Sticking to a sleek palette of off-white for the interior and exterior, the home is more than just a white mansion, though. Fitted with eco-friendly assets, such as 230 hidden solar panels to absorb heat, fresh-air ventilation and water-collection and water-purification systems—the house is both modern and luxurious.

Ford’s reputation for excellence and his unflinching eye for style will no doubt build upon the home’s value, and we can just imagine the collection of contemporary art he’ll display in the home (according to Artnet, Ford’s collection includes Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder, Ad Reinhardt, and Ellsworth Kelly). This new acquisition rounds Ford’s property portfolio out nicely, which includes a Holmby Hills estate in LA and homes in London, New York City and his hometown in Santa Fe, Texas.
