Although a garden or backyard is usually not the first thing you think of when it comes to extravagant celebrity homes, there is no mistaking their glamour. These elaborate spaces are simply a continuation of the luxurious interiors and bring endless inspiration for our own outdoor spaces.

A well-designed garden is more than a basic deck and outdoor dining setting, or at least it is for our favourite celebrities. These spaces include opulent swimming pools and large open green spaces as well as perfectly landscaped rose gardens, steaming hot tubs and paved terraces. On top of that, these homes don’t simply have one outdoor space. From secluded balconies to terraced spaces, almost all of these homes have multiple spaces for their owners to take in the great outdoors.

Whether your style is more family-focused like model Alessandra Ambrosio or old-style European like Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden, take a look through these 25 beautiful gardens to find your next outdoor inspiration.

The real centre of home life at Alessandra Ambrosio’s Santa Monica home is the backyard, where swimming, volleyball, Brazilian barbecue and music, and roasting s’mores are the order of the day. “The house is very calm and peaceful, but the backyard is all about fun and noise. It has the same joyous feeling as my beach house in Brazil. When it’s winter in California, we head to Florianópolis, where it’s nice and warm,” Ambrosio says, adding, “I’m a summer girl. I grew up in bikinis.” Nothing could be less surprising.

Sivan “added to the site’s archaeology”, says interior designer David Flack, with the purchase and placement of one of Ball’s hard-edged geometries on a courtyard wall still etched with markings. This injection of line and colour informed the landscaping hand of Rupert Bain, who was conceptually briefed to make it all appear as if “Grandma had collected these random plants and pots and didn’t know that she was great at gardening.”
