60-year-old Tom Cruise is still on top form: in his latest ‘performance’, he accepted an MTV Movie Award while flying a P-51 Mustang aircraft.

Hollywood veteran Tom Cruise is still on top form, still doing his own stunts, still flying his own planes.

Just a few days ago, the 60-year-old star accepted the MTV Award for Best Performance in a Movie while… flying an old fighter plane.

“Thank you so much for this award [and] for letting me entertain you,” Tom Cruise said in his high-altitude speech. “It’s an absolute privilege.”

Cruise was filmed flying a P-51 Mustang aircraft that was used in World War II as well as during the Korean War.

It’s unclear whether Tom Cruise actually owns the plane but we know two things.

One, Tom Cruise’s name is printed on the livery and two, with a net worth in excess of $600 million, he can certainly afford it.

The P-51 was the “100 day wonder” of WWII.  Originally specified and ordered by Great Britain and ignored by the US Army Air Corps, the aircraft was designed and built by North American Aviation from the ground up in 100 days.  When it’s capabilities were later recognized by the USAAC, it was ordered in vast quantities.  The range, speed and high-altitude capabilities enabled the Allied forces to escort bombers far deeper into enemy territory than any other fighter aircraft–as exemplified by the 332 Fighter Group (the Tuskegee Airmen in their “Red Tail” Mustangs).  This allowed the continuation and fruition of the American bomber force’s tactic of precision daylight bombing.

The award was given to him for his performance in the upcoming film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

As the name suggests, the movie is part one of the two-part finale that will conclude the Mission: Impossible saga and retire Tom Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt.

Tom Cruise performed ‘the biggest stunt in cinema history’ while filming the movie, jumping off a cliff while riding a motorcycle.

Tom Cruise, who clearly loves doing this stuff, has recently done something similar.

Not that long ago, the actor gave a speech while wearing skydiving gear aboard a chopper… right before jumping off the helicopter.

The speech in question was a thank-you to fans who loved Top Gun: Maverick.

Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to the iconic 1986 movie Top Gun, was a breath of fresh air for Hollywood.

The world’s most famous cinema industry was going through a rough patch, made worse by the pandemic and the rise in popularity of streaming services.

Top Gun: Maverick was actually delayed several times and, during the pandemic, several streaming companies attempted to purchase the rights from Paramount.

Cruise, however, was adamant the movie had to be released exclusively in theaters.
