Mom of missing cheerleader Ava Phillips, 17, says daughter ‘sounded scared’ in eerie phone call made after she vanished

A MASSIVE search is underway for a 17-year-old cheerleader after she abruptly left school and called her mother from a blocked number.

Ava Phillips was seen leaving her high school in Angleton, Texas, about an hour south of Houston, around 10 am on Tuesday and getting into a vehicle.

Later that day, she called her mother, Kailey Perez, from a blocked number, raising concerns for her well-being.

“She sounded scared, and I don’t think she’s in control,” Perez told local NBC affiliate KPRC.

“She told me she’d come home, but she hasn’t. I just want her home safely,” Perez continued.

“She sounds very scared. Her voice is very shaky. I don’t think that she’s in control. I think that someone’s telling her what to say.”

Perez added that a boy who she says was emotionally abusive to Ava may have information on her whereabouts.

Police said in a press release that they were advised Ava left the school with her boyfriend.

It’s unclear if the boyfriend is the same boy that Perez said was emotionally abusive to her daughter.

“She’s a beautiful, sweet girl who would never run away,” Perez added.

Her car was found in the school parking lot and she left her phone, keys, and backpack inside.

Witnesses reported seeing her enter a white Toyota Corolla before missing her fourth-period class.

Ava is 5-foot-2 with long brown hair, blonde highlights, and dimples.

She was last seen wearing black sweatpants, a gray crop top, and slippers, and her hair was in a loose braid.

‘HELP ME FIND MY BABY’

Perez shared a photo of Ava on her Facebook account, asking the public for help in finding her daughter.

“Please please help me find my 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦,” she pleaded.

Houston Astros player Alex Bregman also shared the post and asked his followers to help find Ava.

Community members sent Ava’s family hope on Facebook, with many commenting on the Angleton Police Department’s recent post.

“Praying for her safe return and for her poor family. Can’t imagine what they’re going through,” one comment read.

“Praying she will be with her parents soon,” another added.

“Praying for a quick and safe return,” a third agreed.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to the Angleton Police Department for an update on the case.
