The Eagles won 40 to 22 over the Chiefs during the championship game. Patrick Mahomes got emotional on the field during the 2025 Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 29, had tears in his eyes as his team lost the championship game to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The face-off ended with the Eagles scoring 40 points to the Chiefs’ 22, marking the former’s first win since 2017.

In a video shared on X by Fox Sports, Mahomes is seen tearfully walking around the field following the Chiefs’ loss, embracing his fellow team members while he looks off to the side.

The Chiefs got off to a rough on Sunday. The team shockingly went into halftime scoreless and narrowly avoided making history as the first team to be shut out during a Super Bowl. The Chiefs eventually got on the board towards the end of the third quarter when Xavier Worthy and Patrick Mahomes connected for a 24-yard touchdown pass.

At that point, the Eagles had already scored multiple touchdowns, with the score 34-6. DeAndre Hopkins scored the Chiefs’ second touchdown late in the fourth quarter, bringing the tally up to 40-14 with the help of a penalty against the Eagles.

Fox Sports reported, prior to the Chiefs’ first score, that the deficit is the largest since Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. “They have not been able to sustain much,” retired NFL star Tom Brady said of the Chiefs while commentating.

Then, with less than two minutes on the clock, Xavier Worthy scored his second touchdown of the game for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs have previously won four Super Bowls, earning their first title against the Minnesota Vikings in 1970. Since drafting Mahomes in 2017, the Missouri-based team has won three more titles in 2020, 2023 and 2024. If they won the 2025 game, it would have been their fifth Super Bowl win and a history-making “three-peat.”

Mahomes arrived at the big game in a green checkered suit paired with a blue tie and white button-down shirt. The green in the suit looked suspiciously like Eagles green, a.k.a. the competition. He completed his look with a pair of mirrored Oakley sunglasses.

His wife, Brittany Mahomes, dressed in a chic all-white outfit. She opted for a 𝓈ℯ𝓍y white corset and cropped white jacket with long, baggy sleeves, which she teamed with custom white cargo jeans less than one month after welcoming her third 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥. The wide-leg pants featured embellishments and the team name written in red down one of the legs.

Their kids daughter Sterling Skye, 3, and son, Patrick “Bronze”, 2, wore red-and-gold T-shirts with the footballer’s no. 15 emblazoned on the front.
