A dog in Texas is thanking his lucky stars after narrowly avoiding a terrible fate.

A Good Samaritan was walking near some active railroad tracks in San Antonio when they spotted a yellow Labrador mix lying on the tracks. They called 311 to report the animal, and Animal Care Officer Edwards got there as soon as he could.
As he examined the scene, the officer discovered the dog’s leash was attached to the railroad tie by a nail. He couldn’t tell if the dog had been put there intentionally, or if he had been dragging the leash when it got stuck. Either way, the dog was scared to death.
Officer Edwards used a humane catch pole to get the dog under control. As he was working to free the dog from the stuck leash, he heard the telltale sounds of an approaching train. He had to hustle to ensure both he and the dog were clear of the tracks by the time the train roared past them.

Back at the shelter the dog was named Lucky, for obvious reasons! After the fear and anxiety of his ordeal wore off, he turned out to be a total teddy bear! Shelter workers got right to work finding him a perfect new furever home. Sharing his harrowing tale online did the trick — within hours, they were inundated with interested potential adopters!
It only took one week for the perfect family to find Lucky.

Mr. C saw Lucky’s story on social media and thought he looked like a great match for his family. He came to the shelter and spent some time playing with him and getting to know him, and by the end of their meet-and-greet the decision was made.
“As soon as I met him, I could tell he was exactly the kind of dog that would fit in with my family,” he told the shelter. “He was so chill and unbothered.”
Lucky was neutered, microchipped, and sent to his new home. He even got a new name: Duke!

His name may now be Duke, but he’s still one very lucky boy! We’re so glad someone saw him and called animal control before tragedy struck.
