D’Angelo Russell Used To Think Jordan Poole Isn’t As Good As Tyler Herro

D’Angelo Russell thinks Jordan Poole can be looked at as a better young player than Tyler Herro.

The NBA is in a great position with multiple young guards looking to climb the ranks of stardom right now. Two standout prospects are Jordan Poole and Tyler Herro, with the pair often being compared to each other. D’Angelo Russell thinks Poole might be clear of Herro, something Draymond Green helped him realize.

“I didn’t know he was going to be as nice as he was… I thought Tyler Herro might be better than him. Dray was like, ‘I don’t know JP got some sh*t.”\

Poole and Herro have the most postseason success out of the young guards in the NBA. Herro has a Finals appearance as a rookie and has been awarded Sixth Man of the Year.

Poole won an NBA Championship with the Warriors in 2022 and signed a four-year, $128 million contract ($140 million with incentives) last summer. The market valued Poole higher than Herro, who signed a four-year, $120 million contract ($130 million with incentives) with the Heat at the same time.

Has Jordan Poole Cleared Tyler Herro?

Poole has been a true rotational contributor for about two seasons now, while Herro came out of the gates helping the Miami Heat make a Finals. But if that is a major accomplishment, Poole averaging 17.0 points in the 2022 Playoffs and becoming a champion should be rated much higher.

Neither player has gotten All-NBA or All-Star plaudits, so they have a lot to still achieve. They are also coming off tough years, with Poole being moved to Washington after disappearing in the playoffs.

Herro saw his Heat make the Finals without him and has been subject to trade rumors all summer long. He averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season, so there is clear value in having him. Poole’s accomplishments may put him ahead of Herro right now, but they have years of battling still to be done.
