Fellow soccer superstar Neymar has been reprimanded for his new mansion, too.

And he’s going to have to dig deep in his pockets, as he’s been handed a hefty fine.

Why, you’re probably wondering?

For building a lake at his Brazilian mansion, that’s why.

But, it’s his money – he can do what he likes.

Apparentently not.

Rumor has it, the 31-year-old has been the subject of an investigation by the local council in Mangaratiba, a coastal town near Rio de Janeiro.

The investigation was a result of several “irregularities” in the lavish construction project.

Work was brought to a halt, and Neymar was handed a hefty fine for failing to follow planning rules, as well as allowing building to take place without the relevant licenses.

The council said in a statement that four fines have been issued for “environmental violations in the construction of an artifical lake at the player’s mansion”.

By the way, the soccer star‘s mansion, which features a spa and helipad, is said to sit on a 10,000 square-meter plot.

The statement goes on to say that “dozens of infractions” have been detected and point out that Neymar is “carrying out work subject to environmental control without authorization”.

That’s not all, though.

Neymar also had his knuckles rapped for overseeing the “removal of land and suppression of vegetation without authorization”, as well as capturing and diverting a water source without the relevant documentation.

The fine – 16 million reais which equates to $3.3 million.

Clearly, it doesn’t matter how big a star you are or how much money you’ve got – you’re never above the law.

If you’re wondering how Neymar got caught, apparently he’d fallen under the microscope following complaints in a series of social media posts.

Although the mansion site was cordoned off and all work brought to a close, he is said to have still visited the site and even held a party.

That probably didn’t help matters, to be fair.
