Black Woman Who Secured $5M in Affordable Housing For 250 Families Now Fighting Aggressive Breast Cancer

Meet Dr. Sarah Michelle Washington, a mother and visionary leader whose DC-based non-profit organization is responsible for securing and negotiating stabilized housing in excess of $5 million for more than 250 families in underserved communities. Sadly though, she had recently been diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer and is now asking the community that she has helped for years to support her with prayers and financial support for her treatments.

Beyond her advocacy and social work, Dr. Washington is a trailblazer in real estate investment and development. Through her company, RealtyULike, she has worked tirelessly to create affordable housing options for those in need across the country. Recognizing opportunities for government engagement, she expanded her services under HBUL Services, driving her impact further.

As a non-profit leader, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to community service. In 2016, she founded The IMPACT Experience, a non-profit organization that aims to support women and families facing challenges like domestic abuse, homelessness, and human trafficking. As the Executive Director, her mission is to inspire women with a message of self-love and empowerment, inside and out.

Her newest affordable housing project is in Washington, DC, where her team is working to turn a property into veterans housing that will be divided into three units.

Sadly, however, her breast cancer diagnosis is crippling her ability to continue supporting and helping Black and brown people who are in need of housing. Treatment, though, is available to help her fully recover but it is very costly.

How you can help

Dr. Washington and other advocates in the community are asking for support by making donations (small or large) to her GoFundMe page. So far the campaign has already raised more than $26,000, but she needs to raise about $60,000 more.

Those who can are encouraged to support this vibrant community leader who has made so many sacrifices to support Black and brown people. Dr. Sarah says that her recovery from cancer will enable her to continue in her endeavors to uplift underserved families that live in low-income communities.
