Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf wants to see more offensively from Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.
While Leboeuf hailed Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher as an “outstanding” midfield on ESPN FC after Chelsea’s 4-1 win against Burnley yesterday, he still thinks there is room for improvement.
The former is yet to open his account in blue, though he only joined Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the summer, while the latter has scored just one goal since arriving at Stamford Bridge in January.
Chelsea obviously did not buy Caicedo and Fernandez for goals, though, while the team’s attackers managed to get the job done at Turf Moor.
Frank Leboeuf thinks Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez can bring more to the team
While Chelsea’s forwards were on fire yesterday, Leboeuf still wants to see Caicedo and Fernandez contributing to attacks.
Discussing the midfield duo, the ESPN FC pundit said: “The three in the midfield zone are outstanding. They do the job. They should bring, especially Caicedo and Fernandez, more offensively, but what they do in the middle of the park is very interesting and it kind of frees the three at front.”
Enzo Fernandez can help Chelsea going forward
Caicedo can probably get away with not scoring goals or providing assists, but you can argue it is a little bit different for Fernandez.
Again, Chelsea did not buy him to win them matches. His job is to help them dominate possession.
However, Fernandez has been given a bit of licence to get forward this season and he is quite a technical midfielder.
According to WhoScored, the Argentine is completing 1.5 key passes per league game. Only Reece James has a higher average in Chelsea’s squad and the right-back has only played one match.
Ultimately, Fernandez has the role and s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 to perhaps do a bit more in attack. But if the likes of Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson continue to get things done, it will ease the pressure on him and the rest of the team.
