Journalist Matt Law has claimed that Chelsea would pay a lot of money if they didn’t already have Conor Gallagher in their ranks.
He told the ‘London is Blue’ podcast that they would spend about £100m for him if he played for a side like Brighton instead of themselves.
Gallagher has certainly come out fighting this season after he was nearly sold in the prior transfer window.
He has formed a sensational trio in the middle of the park with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, two players who the club have previously smashed their transfer records for in consecutive windows.
Even with the quality of his South American teammates, there have been examples of games where he has been the standout player.
However, this has not yet put to bed talk of him leaving the club, with it still being reported that the club are not ruling out cashing in on the England international.
Considering he came through the academy, he did not cost the club anything and therefore represents a serious profit opportunity.
Law has claimed though that despite this talk, he would be extremely popular on their transfer list if he played elsewhere.
He said: “If Conor Gallagher was playing for Brighton, Chelsea would be trying to sign him for £100m right now. It’s a remarkable turnaround because he was on the list of players that Chelsea were trying to sell in the summer.”
It remains to be seen whether Gallagher, who Mauricio Pochettino is a massive fan of, will remain at Stamford Bridge when the transfer window opens again and the chance at profit returns.
