Hitting the deck and screaming in pain, Neymar knew that it was bad as he was pictured in tears as he made his way from the pitch.
With Al Hilal confirming that their talisman would require surgery and a lengthy spell on the sidelines, supporters came out in force to show their backing for the 31-year-old.
Fans chanted Neymar’s name in the tenth minute of their clash against Al Khaleej, a match that they won 1-0 thanks to Aleksandar Mitrovic’s seventh of the season so far.
They also showcased a stunning display for the Brazilian superstar with the message “return stronger”.
It wasn’t just the fans though, with Neymar’s Al Hilal teammates posing with the star’s No10 jersey before the match to show that they’re fully behind him.
For Neymar, that support could be crucial as he faces his longest spell ever on the sidelines.
The Brazil international has fractured his metatarsal twice and suffered a serious ankle injury in some of the biggest problems he has faced since 2018.
But the longest time he has faced on the sidelines has amounted to around three months and this period will be a lot longer.
Neymar will undergo the knife where he will then begin the recovery phase, which could span for over a year.
As a result, he’ll miss the rest of Al Hilal’s Saudi Pro League campaign and could miss Brazil’s Copa America campaign next summer as well.
