Young African man who worked as a motorcycle rider to pay his school fees finally bags 4.55/5.00 first-class bachelors degree

A young African man named Toyinbo Hezekiah who worked as a motorcycle rider to pay his school fees has finally bagged a bachelor’s degree with a 4.55//5.00 first-class honors at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Toyinbo is a Nigerian man who started his education in a rural village in Ogun Nigeria. Narrating his story on Linkedin, he said he started his academic years in a school short of teachers and with a little standard of teaching.

He said after secondary school, his parent wanted him to learn a trade because of their financial challenges but he refused as he wanted to continue his education. Determined to further his education, Toyinbo enrolled in the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta.

He stated that to survive in the university, he did a lot of menial jobs starting from working as a laborer for bricklayers, farming, and moving on to using a motorcycle for business purposes.

Toyinbo obtained his bachelor’s degree in Animal breeding and genetics at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Nigeria with a first-class honors of 4.55 over a possible 5.00 cumulative grade point.

Toyinbo mentioned that most of his associates do not know him as a student as he was mostly seen as an okada rider. “Most people are not aware that I attended school. They only knew me as an Okada rider. Sometimes, I use the motorcycle to carry bags of cement,” he said.

He said he never believed that he was going to graduate with a second-class upper talkless of first-class honors. Advising students, Toyinbo said regardless of their upbringing, they can accomplish anything they set their mind to with determination, faith, and diligence.

He added that If they do not have someone to support and motivate them, they should be their own source of support and motivation. Toyinbo said he is looking for more research in fields of breeding, genetics, biotechnology, bioinformatics, animal science, and agricultural sciences.
