Can you believe Anne Hathaway’s sheer white corset shirt dress is from GAP?
It’s safe to say Anne Hathaway has slayed every single look she’s stepped out wearing in 2024. We’re talking about the cut-out blue gown she donned for the SAG Awards, the ABBA-worthy silver sequin jumpsuit, plus all four outfits she wore in one day during a marathon press tour for her latest film The Idea of You. We also can’t forget about her Vanity Fair cover, on which she wore just an XL bow bodysuit.
All this to say, she cannot put a fashion foot wrong RN. So who are we to question the fact she just wore a Gap dress – yep, as in the affordable basics brand most famous for its slogan sweatshirts everyone wore in the ’90s and ’00s and its simple button-down white shirts – on the red carpet at a Bulgari jewelry event?
But then we saw the dress… Sure, it may be simple, but it’s definitely red carpet-appropriate. Especially when paired with jewels that cost more than a house.

Anne’s deconstructed shirt dress featured short sleeves, an oversized collar, and pleating at the torso. She wore the design falling off one shoulder, with just two buttons fastened at her midsection to reveal the semi-sheer white corset and white pleated shorts (both also from Gap) she had on underneath. A flared skirt fell all the way to the floor, where she added white court shoes to her feet.

According to a press release shared by Gap, Anne’s look was inspired by the brand’s staple cotton poplin button-downs as well as Audrey Hepburn in the role of Princess Anne in the iconic rom-com Roman Holiday.
Anne was photographed at the event toting Bulgari’s Serpenti Forever top handle bag, and she further accessorized with sparkling earrings, a chunky choker-style diamond and sapphire necklace, stacks of bracelets, and a blue sapphire cocktail ring also from the designer.

To provide a little context, Gap is currently undergoing a revival amongst the A-list thanks to the appointment of celeb-favourite designer Zac Posen to the high-street brand’s helm in February 2024. Anne’s red carpet outing follows Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s appearance at the 2024 Met Gala in a custom Gap denim gown.
And while Anne’s dress is also a custom creation by Zac, a *very* similar style is set to be available to buy in August.
The limited edition shirt dress will go on sale for just £120, giving shoppers who are quick enough to add it to their basket – you bet we’re predicting a sell-out – the chance to get in on Gap’s glamourous revamp too.
Well, if it’s good enough for Hollywood royalty…
