Tiger Woods’ son Charlie misses cut at US Junior Amateur Championship by shooting 22-over in front of his dad

Tiger Woods‘ son Charlie’s dreams of following in his dad’s footsteps have hit a hurdle after he missed the cut at the US Junior Amateur Championship by 18 strokes.

The 15-year-old failed to advance to match play with the top 64 after he carded a 10-over-par 80 in the second round at Oakland Hills’ South Course in Michigan on Tuesday.

Although he earned spot in the 264-player field last month, he finished near the bottom of the pack at the event, which his father famously won three years in a row at ages 15, 16 and 17.

Tiger, a 15-time major winner, is the only golfer to win three consecutive US Junior titles, and reached the semifinals in his debut as a 14-year-old in 1990.

His mini-me Charlie made three pars and a birdie through his first four holes on Tuesday (on the back nine) before hitting a disastrous stretch.

The 15-year-old son of the golf legend failed to advance to match play with the top 64 players

He closed the back nine by going double bogey, bogey, par, double bogey, triple bogey, leaving him at 8 over par for the day.

He then settled down on the front nine, getting a birdie and five pars, but closed bogey-par-bogey.

Only 17 players finished below Woods, including one who withdrew after the first round.

The junior event usually draws a few hundred fans toward the end of the six-day tournament, but Charlie and his A-list dad unsurprisingly attracted a relatively large crowd.

Hundreds of people walked behind Charlie on the fairway, and completely circled the 10th green, his first hole of the day.

Meanwhile, his father walked with large galleries on hand as he’s not permitted to caddie due to a specific rule by the US Golf Association.

The rule states that ‘a player must not use a parent, step-parent, or guardian as a caddie during qualifying or the Championship proper.’

However, the father-son duo are set to team up at the PNC Championship at Orlando in December.
