Tiger Woods is lending his name and support to the Cobbs Creek Foundation and its $65 million renovation of the Cobbs Creek Golf Course, writes Aaron Carter for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

He is partnering with the Foundation to bring a new short course to the 340-acre property along with some educational programming for local youth.

The Cobbs Creek course, primarily in Philadelphia, has a section in Upper Darby.

“I’m excited to work with the Cobbs Creek Foundation and the Philadelphia community on this special project that combines my passions, golf and supporting youth through education,” Woods said in a press release.

Woods’ charity, the TGR Foundation, will create a TGR Learning Lab, providing STEM education, college prep and “career readiness” to local youth.

His design firm, TGR Design, will create a “short course” for golfers of all ages and abilities.

The 18-hole, city-owned Cobbs Creek course was home to Charlie Stifford, the first Black golfer to play on the PGA tour, and Woods’ inspiration.

When Cobbs Creek opened in 1916, it allowed all players, regardless of race, decades before the PGA welcomed people of color.
