On Thursday, Team USA faced off against Serbia in the semi-finals of the 2024 Olympics. Serbia was in control since the early part of the game taking the lead. It almost seemed that after two losses to the USA, Serbia had victory in its grasp. As such, it was one of the most thrilling games in the tournament with USA eventually coming on top.
After the game, Team USA head coach, Steve Kerr praised the amount of talent present on the court. Steve Kerr even praised the former three-time MVP, Nikola Jokic, and the Serbian squad for the game they played throughout. Kerr’s comments were shared by Boston Globe National’s Gary Washburn. Kerr even stated that it was one of the greatest basketball games he had ever been part of.
The game was greatly in the hands of Serbia as they had a 17-point lead by the end of the second quarter. But Stephen Curry played one of the best games in Olympic history and scored 36 points to save his nation. Even Serbia played well with Nikola Jokic being his dominant self and causing many problems to Team USA. Serbia was great with its three-point shooting as well and was close to clinching the game and reaching the finals.
Throughout his career, Kerr has won five championships as a player and four championships as a coach. The current Team USA is still undefeated in the Olympics and will be facing France in the Finals for the gold medal, giving Kerr another feather in his cap.
Patrick Beverly defends Steve Kerr for facing criticism after benching Jayson Tatum
Steve Kerr has been facing a lot of criticism from NBA fans as well as NBA veterans. Many think Kerr’s decision to bench Jayson Tatum has not been the right one. It was the second time in this tournament that Tatum got the DNP and sat on the bench.
Former NBA star Patrick Beverly defended Kerr and in a tweet listed Kerr’s accomplishments as a player and a coach and believed ‘Numbers don’t lie.’ With such great talent and star power in the team, some will inevitably miss out on playing time.
Jayson Tatum is one of the best young stars in the league today. He won his first championship last season with the Boston Celtics and had a dominant season overall. He has been great in the current Olympics as well and is one of the most important pieces to the team.
