Charlie Woods Outclassed Yet Again as 15-Year-Old Rival Earns Staggering USGA Feat

Golf’s next generation is knocking on the door! With a day left, the 2024 US Amateur Championship is like a party for the sport’s most talented young stars. The event is set to kick off on August 12–18 at Hazeltine National Golf Club and Chaska Town Course. With a field packed with names to watch, the tournament is shaping up to be a thrilling showcase of s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁, talent, and determination.

But amidst the crowd of rising stars, one teenager’s remarkable journey is turning heads while raising questions about the future of golf’s family dynasty. You guessed it right; we are talking about Miles Russell and Charlie Woods. So, let’s get to know how one 15-year-old beat the other.

Miles Russell’s USGA feat over Woods Jr.’s

Hailing from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Miles Russell is among the youngest competitors in the field at the US Amateur this year. At just 15 years old, the home-schooled golfer is already making waves, sending shockwaves through the golf world. Notably, Russell’s achievement outshines Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, who failed to qualify for the event altogether.

Last month, Russell also came up short at the US Junior Am, just like Charlie Woods. At the Junior Am, Russell showed his fighting spirit. He rallied from three holes down with seven to play against Jay Leng at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Although he ultimately lost 1 up, the left-hander’s performance was impressive, winning the 12th and 15th holes with pars. He is now one of the youngest players to tee off at the US Amateur Championship. In contrast, Charlie Woods missed the cut in his first USGA start. He carded the first and second rounds of 12 and 10 over par to ultimately finish 22 over through two rounds.

Despite the miss, Russell has achieved remarkable success this year. He made his debut on the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour’s Rocket Mortgage Classic this year, sending the golf world into a frenzy.  Moreover, the prodigy became the youngest golfer ever to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour.

It highlights his standout talent and achievements in the golf world. Russell will now be joining an elite group of young competitors at the US Amateur Championship, who are the notable youngsters he’s going to compete with.

The 2023 Boy’s Junior PGA Champion will be joined by 14-year-old Jaden Soong and 15-year-old Sohan Patel. They will be the youngest trios to compete in the event. This trio is sure to bring an exciting level of energy and s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 to the championship.

But that’s not all—the 15-year-old will also face stiff competition from other notable young golfers. Trevor Gutschewski, son of PGA Tour veteran Scott Gutschewski and winner of the US Junior Am, is in the field. Another notable youngster will be John Daly II, son of the legendary John Daly. Moreover, Blades Brown, 17, is another talented youngster to watch.

With this impressive lineup, the US Amateur Championship showcases the future of golf. With an impressive field that includes the young prodigy, Miles Russell, the tournament will be worth watching.
