Adam Scott dubs it a “little early” to compare Scottie Scheffer’s form to prime Tiger Woods, says PGA Tour rival could catch up

Adam Scott is gearing up to participate in the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship. He qualified for the playoffs after he finished 46th in the FedExCup standings with 1,041 points. The tournament is being held from August 15 to 18 at TPC Southwind in Shelby County, Tennessee.

Scott will be playing competitive golf after three weeks of rest. The Australian last played the Open Championship at Royal Troon where he finished tied at 10th. Scott would look to move into the top 30 in the first of three playoffs to determine the FedEx winner to play the Tour Championship.

In the pre-tournament press conference, Scott was asked which “historic year” he’d prefer for himself, between Scheffler’s and Schauffele’s. He said (via ASAP Sports):

“It’s a tough one. I’d pick Xander’s year because I’m interested — I think two majors is incredible. But if you picked me to vote on the Player of the Year today, I’d probably vote for Scottie. I don’t know if that even makes sense, but it’s a strange situation, these two guys playing so well.”

Scheffler has had seven wins this year including a Major while Schauffle has two wins both in Majors. Scott was further asked if Schauffele was feeling the same way about Scheffler as players did in 2005-06 to Tiger Woods when the latter was dominating the Tour. He said:

“It might be a little early to have that kind of direct comparison to what was going on back in ’05. Tiger had been at a clip for six years there. It’s fair to say Scottie has been at a pretty good clip the last two years, so he’s well on his way. I think it’s remarkable what he’s doing. I don’t think Xander should give up hope just yet, though. I think he’s got it in him.”

Adam Scott had finished tied for fifth at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind. Going into the competition this year, he looked confident:

“I like this golf course. It’s a good challenge, and I’ve had some good results here in the past.”A look at Adam Scott’s performances in 2024
