Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s bid to sell their $68 million home has hit a major roadblock.
The star couple purchased the home in May 2023 for $60.8 million and have accepted a $64 million offer from a New Jersey couple, according to TMZ .
However, the sale of the home is now in jeopardy after the anonymous buyers ‘pulled out of escrow’ following the death of a family member.
When an asset goes out of escrow, it means something went wrong with the sale of the asset or some other aspect of the transaction.
When this happens, the property is no longer under contract and will be relisted for sale.
The buyer is said to have fallen in love with the 3,500-square -foot mansion that Affleck and Lopez listed on Zillow for a whopping $68 million in July.
Despite pulling out of escrow, sources close to the matter confirmed that the New Jersey couple “remain interested in the property.”
Affleck and Jennifer Lopez paid cash for the property and “spent millions on renovations.”
Additionally, they pay a 5.25% estate tax and “huge fees to real estate brokers,” according to TMZ .
Importantly, the proposed sale of the home would mark a significant division of the former couple’s $550 million fortune, which was divided without a prenuptial agreement.
Lopez’s estate accounts for $400 million of their fortune. Affleck is said to have an estimated net worth of $150 million.
The property, called Crestview Manor, includes a 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom main house as well as a 4,800-square- foot guest penthouse, along with a two-bedroom guardhouse, a caretaker’s house and a 12-car garage.
Amenities include a bar, a home gym, a sports lounge, a bar, a boxing ring, basketball and baseball fields, and parking for 80 cars.
The source noted that there was “some financial stalemate” between the couple. In the divorce filing, Lopez wrote that their assets were “unknown.”
Under California state law, only income and assets they earned during their brief marriage are “considered community property and subject to division.”
This includes the Beverly Hills mansion and several projects and endorsement deals they have done since their marriage.
They are currently in the process of mediation, which is a less formal and quicker alternative to a traditional divorce.
