Tiger Woods packs up and leaves to get away from ‘catastrophic’ Hurricane Milton

Golf legend Tiger Woods has been spotted taking a flight out of Florida to get away from Hurricane Milton, which is being classed as the ‘storm of the century’.

Tiger Woods’ airplane has been spotted making a move away from Hurricane Milton, which officials have warned is going to be ‘deadly and catastrophic’ on a day where millions have left Florida ahead of the storm’s arrival.

Woods’ private plane (reg: N517TW) was picked up by radaratlas2 on X / Twitter flying out of Florida on Wednesday morning.

The account then tweeted less than an hour later that Woods’ airplane had made its descent towards Jackson, Mississippi, which coincidentally was the site of last week’s Sanderson Farms Championship won by Kevin Yu on the PGA Tour.

Why exactly Woods’ plane was heading specifically to Jackson remains unknown.

Hurricane Milton is being reported by officials as the ‘storm of the century’ with sustained winds still registering at 150mph (241km/h).

It is being measured at category four strength and is expected to double its wind field by the time it makes landfall in the United States late Wednesday or early Thursday.

“Milton has the potential to be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida,” the National Hurricane Center has warned the public.

United States President Joe Biden warned more than 5m people living in the state this afternoon that evacuating their homes was a matter of “life and death.”

Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida, revealed “absolutely every place on the west coast of Florida could get major storm surge.”

An official from Pasco County, Florida, warned its 600,000 residents “this is your last chance to take shelter.”

“After that, you’ll need to find a way to the shelter or be prepared to ride out the storm.”

Hurricane Milton comes less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene hit the Gulf Coast as a category four storm, 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁ing at least 225 people across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

Cathie Perkis, emergency management director in Pinellas County, Florida, said: “This is it, folks. Those of you who were punched during Hurricane Helene, this is going to be a knockout. You need to get out, and you need to get out now.”

FEMA chief Deanne Criswell told the public via a national broadcast to The White House: “I want everyone to know we are prepared for what we need to do to support Florida as well as all of the other states.

“People need to listen to their local officials and take this storm seriously. It’s going to hit the west coast of Florida as a major hurricane and it will still be a hurricane as it departs on the eastern coast of Florida.

“There will be flooding, tornados, storm surge. Take the actions you need to protect yourself and your family. We do not need to lose any lives as a result of this storm. We have the time to prepare, make sure you are taking those actions now.”

Woods, 48, is based out of Jupiter Island, Florida, and he has seemingly heeded the advice being sent his way.

Woods is currently sidelined from PGA Tour action a result of undergoing a sixth career back surgery last month.

Prior to that, Woods underwent ankle surgery in 2023, two years after his horror car crash that nearly 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁ed him.

The 15-time major champion played in all four majors in 2024 but only managed to make the cut once at The Masters, and even that led to him finishing dead last (60th) of those that made the weekend.

Woods claimed after missing the cut in his last tournament at the 152nd Open at Royal Troon in July that he would unlikely be seen in competitive action again until the PNC Championship just before Christmas alongside his son Charlie Woods.
