Wallabies Suliasi Vunivalu and Jordan Petaia as well as young backline prospect Floyd Aubrey have left the Queensland Reds as the squads for all 11 clubs were confirmed on Tuesday.
On Friday the Reds announced they have signed Crusaders outside back Heremaia Murray on a two-year deal.
Murray was invited on the recent tour with the Queensland Reds to Japan where he reinforced the positive traits the club had identified.
He made a try-scoring debut on the wing as a Red in the 42-28 win over the Saitama Panasonic Wild Knights in Kumagaya.
From being a “player of interest”, he has progressed to signing a contract for 2025 and 2026.
Murray, 24, played three times for the Crusaders in Super Rugby Pacific in 2024 and has been a regular for Northland in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship since 2022.
Vunivalu, whose high-profile code switch has been a major disappointment, is understood to be heading for a contract in French rugby with Will Skelton’s club team La Rochelle after being left out of the Wallabies and Australia XV squads for the Spring tours.
He was given a debut by Dave Rennie and taken to the World Cup by Eddie Jones but never featured in Joe Schmidt’s plans.
It has been reported he was wanted by NRL clubs but has opted to stay in union for now and remains contracted through next year’s Lions tour.
Petaia has not been included in the Reds’ Super Rugby Pacific squad either. He has been eyeing a tilt at playing NFL – a tough road to hoe for a rugby player.
Vunivalu’s 40-game, 18-try Reds stint had a sour conclusion when he was sent off for two trips against Fijian Drua.
Petaia will attend January’s exclusive NFL International Player Pathway development camp in Florida.
Aubrey, who recently scored a hat-trick of tries in Japan for the Reds, has decided to swith to rugby league with Souths Logan Magpies.
After finishing last in 2024, the Waratahs have bolstered their stocks by signing a swag of Melbourne players after the Rebels were cut from the league.
Taniela Tupou, Rob Leota, Isaac Kailea, Angelo Smith, Andrew Kellaway and Darby Lancaster are among former Rebels now in sky blue, while ex-Reds playmaker Lawson Creighton has also signed on.
The Force have added Wallabies Dylan Pietsch, Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Harry Johnson-Holmes and Darcy Swain among a host of new faces.
The Brumbies have only signed two Rebels, forward Tuaina Taii Tualima and centre David Feliuai, and promoted four academy players to their main squad.
The season begins on Friday, February 28, with Moana Pasifika hosting the Highlanders in Auckland, before the Waratahs and Fijian Drua do battle in Sydney later that night.

NSW Waratahs
There has been a huge upheaval at Daceyville. Early attention will be on code-hopper Joseph Suaalii in his transition from the Roosters while the addition of Andrew Kellaway and Darby Lancaster from the Rebels should help ease the pain of losing Mark Nawaqanitawase to rugby league.
The influx of talented back-three and centre options has also meant several players have departed to make way – most recently two-Test Wallaby Dylan Pietsch, who has made the journey across the Nullarbor to sign a multi-year deal with the Western Force – a move that will likely prove mutually beneficial, giving the talented winger more game time while freeing up options for Dan McKellar.
They added three more ex-Rebels to the list along with three more players in a single day.
Prop Siosifa Amone and outside back Henry O’Donnell return home to NSW following stints with the Western Force, and are joined by former Melbourne Rebels lock Angelo Smith, hooker Ethan Dobbins and backrower Leafi Talataina.

Queensland Reds
The Super Rugby career of NRL recruit and short-term Wallaby Suliasi Vunivalu is over for now with the winger leaving the Queensland Reds.
He departs along with young backline prospect Floyd Aubrey.
Vunivalu is expected to hed to France where he’s been linked with Will Skelton’s club La Rochelle.
Aubrey, who scored a hat-trick of tries for the Reds in the recent tour match against Panasonic in Japan, has changed codes to Q-Cup rugby league team Souths Logan Magpies.
Club veteran James O’Connor has opted to leave for the Crusaders after five years with the club.
“These last five years a have been the highlight of my rugby career,” O’Connor said. “I’m so proud of where we have gotten to as a group. Although there’s been highs and lows the consistency, and just the love at this club, has been so incredible to be a part of.
“I’m departing Queensland a better player, leader and man, and I’m so grateful to have been able to play for this team, my home.
“The club couldn’t be in better hands. Les and the other coaches are easily the most cohesive group I have ever worked with and I’m thankful I got to be a part of it this year. I have no doubt that there’s a lot of success to come and I’ll be watching from abroad with deep gratitude. Thanks for everything Queensland. It’s been a dream come true.”
The Reds have given their side an injection of class while being able to keep happy their existing stars. They are shaping to give the competition a decent tilt under Kiss. One to watch is Jordan Petaia, who is yet to commit his future for next season.
They have signed Mason Gordon, Filipo Daugunu and Lukhan Salakaia-Loto from the Rebels did however lose flyhalf Lawson Creighton to the Tahs and Mac Grealy to the Force.

Western Force
The Force recruitment department has been flat out with a significant changing of the guard.
Former Reds outside back Mac Grealy is the latest name on their list.
Grealy’s signing follows the recruitment of Wallabies Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Dylan Pietsch, Harry Johnson-Holmes and Darcy Swain along with internationally capped hooker Nic Dolly, Divad Palu, Josh Thompson, Vaiolini Ekuasi, Nick Champion de Crespigny, Sio Tomkinson and Matt Proctor ahead of the 2025 season.
Tomkinson spent the past two seasons playing with Welsh club Dragons RFC in the United Rugby Championship and European Rugby Challenge Cup. Tomkinson scored six tries in his 24 appearances for the Dragons. Tomkinson also brings Super Rugby experience, having played 43 times for the Highlanders from 2017 to 2022, scoring 14 tries.

Wallabies prop Pone Fa’amausili, who fell out of favour with the Rebels last season and was drafted into the Waratahs as an injury replacement, has signed a one-year deal.
“It’s exciting, we’ve got a new group of players and a new group of staff coming on board in 2025 for Moana Pasifika. I think the caliber of all these people is going to lift Moana Pasifika from where we’ve been,” coach Tana Umaga said.
