England in Eddie Jones’ sights as ex-head coach takes on Six Nations punditry role

The 2025 Six Nations TV coverage will have an added edge with Eddie Jones set to take up a punditry role for ITV Sport.

Jones will cast an eye on his former assistant Steve Borthwick and his team’s journey in the Six Nations with four of England’s five matches being broadcasted by ITV.

It’s a role that he was initially set to fulfil in 2023 after he was sacked as England’s head coach the previous December but he opted to take up the Wallabies job instead.

Eddie Jones headlines ITV’s Six Nations coverage

Australia would go on to endure a torrid run of results as they crashed out of the Rugby World Cup at the pool stages for the first time in their history.

He has since taken over the reins at Japan for a second stint after Jamie Joseph stepped down from the Brave Blossoms’ role after the 2023 World Cup.

Things did not go swimmingly for Jones in his first year back in Japan winning just four of their 11 Test matches in 2024 which prompted some “harsh opinions” during the review of his first season.

“There were some harsh opinions, but the board decided to support him and decided to keep him in his position,” Executive director of the JRFU, Kensuke Iwabuchi stated.

Jones is set to be ITV’s marquee pundit for the Six with the lineup also including England great Jonny Wilkinson, ex-Lions winger Ugo Monye, and Ireland legends Brian O’Driscoll and Rory Best.

Sir Clive Woodard, Jones’ old sparring partner, was the broadcaster’s marquee pundit previously with the World Cup-winning coach holding the role between 2015 and 2023 before quitting the role in order to “concentrate on other things”..

Star-studded team

Jones is ITV’s marquee pundit in a lineup that includes the World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson. Jones’s old sparring partner Sir Clive Woodward will not feature, however, having stepped back following the 2023 World Cup.

ITV have confirmed that Mark Pougatch and Jill Douglas will lead their coverage of 10 tournament matches.

Along with Jones, their star-studded punditry list includes Wilkinson, Monye, Alphonsi, O’Driscoll, Best, Dan Biggar, Jamie Roberts, Johnnie Beattie, Jim Hamilton, Benjamin Kayser and Sergio Parisse.

Nick Mullins and Miles Harrison are the two lead commentators with Ben Kay, Shane Williams, David Flatman, Nolli Waterman, Scott Hastings and Gordon D’Arcy confirmed as the co-commentators.

Gabriel Clarke and Topsy Ojo will be reporting for the broadcaster during the Championship.
