Wonder Woman 3 Isn’t Really Dead? Gal Gadot Provides a Secret Update Regarding Her Upcoming DC Film

Gal Gadot might not really be done with DC, as the Wonder Woman actress has now teased her return as Diana in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

Gal Gadot has given an optimistic update about her future as Wonder Woman in the DC Universe. Gadot has played the character in two solo movies, both versions of Justice League and multiple guest appearances. Gadot’s credits as Wonder Woman in the DCEU include Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeWonder WomanJustice LeagueWonder Woman 1984Zack Snyder’s Justice LeagueShazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash. Gadot was meant to lead a trilogy as the character; however, James Gunn’s new DC Universe and Wonder Woman 3‘s cancelation seemed to 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 those hopes. Now, the actress is bringing back hope of her having a future at DC.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at Netflix’s Tudum: A Global Fan Event, Gadot teased her possible return as Wonder Woman in the future, saying, “Things are being worked behind the scenes, and once the right moment arrives, you’ll know about it.” That is a welcome change of pace for the actress, as Gadot’s recent comments about Wonder Woman 3‘s cancelation and where her career was headed made it seem like the star was okay with never returning as the character.

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman Makes Sense For James Gunn’s DCU

The rumors around Gadot leaving the DC Universe started at the end of 2022, as Gunn revealed that Henry Cavill would not be returning as Superman in the new DC Universe due to the DCEU version of the character being replaced by a younger take on the hero. That decision seemed to spell doom to many DCEU stars, as Cavill was one of the most beloved actors of the past DC universe. That, added to the reveal that Patty Jenkins had departed Wonder Woman 3 and that the film had been canceled, seemed to put an end to Gadot’s time as Wonder Woman.

Gadot’s Wonder Woman is one of the most positive aspects of the old DCEU, and her newfound optimism about a potential future as the character is great news and also makes a lot of sense. Gunn’s DC Universe will not be a full reboot, as some actors from the DCEU are already confirmed to be reprising their characters in the new DC Universe. Most notable among them are Viola Davis’ as Amanda Waller, who gets her own Waller Max series, and John Cena as Peacemaker, with Gunn confirming that he will jump into Peacemaker season 2 right after finishing work on Superman: Legacy.

While Wonder Woman 1984 was poorly received, Gadot’s appearances as Diana Prince in guest roles in multiple DC films after her failed sequel have reignited interest in her take on the hero. Gunn’s announcement that the first DC Universe projects do not include Wonder Woman does not mean that Gadot is out, and the Paradise Lost series could actually set up Wonder Woman’s future. One of the biggest complaints about Gadot’s Wonder Woman franchise was it not fully embracing the character’s mythology, and the upcoming Max prequel series could build the character’s corner of the DC Universe up before Gadot’s possible return as Wonder Woman.
