Former NBA Executive Believes Warriors Are Scared Of Draymond Green Joining Kings

Forward Draymond Green is one of the most impactful players in the league, and it is clear that he is important to Golden State Warriors. He is clearly highly important to their defense, and Green is still a top-tier defensive anchor.

This offseason, Draymond Green will be a free agent after not picking up his $27.5 million player option. A lot of people believe he will remain with the Golden State Warriors, but it is quite possible that he ends up leaving for a more lucrative offer. In fact, former NBA executive John Hollinger theorized that the Warriors are afraid of the Kings getting Green. The Kings are a team with a lot of cap space due to them moving Richaun Holmes’ contract in a draft night trade and Harrison Barnes being a free agent.

“The Warriors have to be sweating right now, at the very least, because there is now a highly plausible rival Green bidder on the market,” Hollinger wrote. “Of course, that’s not the only situation in which the Kings can be a threat.”

There is no question that the Kings getting Draymond Green would greatly improve their defense. Though the offensive fit between Green and Domantas Sabonis would be questionable, it is clear that the defensive upside could be entirely worth it.

During the 2022-23 regular season, Draymond Green put up 8.5 PPG, 7.2 RPG, and 6.8 APG for the Golden State Warriors. Even though he’s not a scorer, he is still a player that impacts multiple areas of the court, and we’ll see what sort of deal he commands in free agency.

Re-Signing Draymond Green Is The Warriors’ Top Priority

The Warriors clearly value Draymond Green, and previously, GM Mike Dunleavy suggested that re-signing the forward is the team’s first priority. This makes sense, as the team likely wants to do everything possible to keep him next to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

“We really want Draymond back,” Dunleavy said. “To win at the highest level, we feel we have to have him. Beyond that, a lot could be made of all the challenges, but we are ready.”

We will see whether Draymond Green remains a Warriors player next season. Though that is the most likely outcome, there is definitely a chance he decides to go elsewhere for a more lucrative offer.
