“I do get in a bit of trouble for that”: Keanu Reeves Knows Fans Would Hate His Decision in Potential DCU Return With Constantine 2

Keanu Reeves has become one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood thanks to his many memorable roles. Fans have a soft spot for John Constantine, the protagonist of the 2005 film Constantine. Although the film has a devoted fan base, Reeves’ performance as the supernatural detective has always been a source of debate.

In the comics, John Constantine is a British man with blond hair, but Reeves gave the role life by using his dark hair. With rumors of a Constantine 2, fans wonder if Keanu Reeves will again don the iconic blond look.

Keanu Reeves sat down for an interview at the recent Los Angeles press day for his upcoming film, John Wick: Chapter 4, where he also talked about his plans for the future. Many people talked about how excited they were to see Constantine 2.

Fans had varying reactions to Reeves’ John Constantine in the first film. Many thought he did a great job, but there was debate about whether his interpretation of the character was faithful to the comic book original.

“We’re trying, I don’t know if it’s gonna happen. If it happens?…I’m playing a different Constantine than the comic, you know, and I do get in a bit of trouble for that.”

In September last year, rumors began spreading about a possible Constantine sequel. However, recent changes at DC Studios, such as hiring James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs, have cast doubt on the project’s future.

The fact that an official announcement wasn’t made at the January press event where the new DC Universe projects were shown only added fuel to the fire of speculation. However, a later statement from writer/producer Akiva Goldsman assured fans that work was still being done on Constantine 2.

When contrasting Reeves’ John Constantine with the original, the actor’s choice of hair color stands out. In the comics, Constantine is typically portrayed as a British man with blond hair.

In the film, however, Reeves sported his dark hair to add to his interpretation of the role. As talks about a possible sequel heat up, people wonder if Keanu Reeves will go blond for the part. Reeves was asked if he would be open to having John Constantine’s hair colored differently in Constantine 2.

“I don’t know if I look good as a blond, but but I appreciate that, and I do. Yeah. Hopefully I get to do it, but I don’t know.”

Even down to his hair color, Reeves has remained faithful to the comic book originals. The actor has previously wished for Constantine 2 to be more faithful to the original stories in a particular way. He let it slip that the first Constantine movie was intended for a PG-13 rating but received an R rating from the MPA.

Reeves plans to dive headfirst into the R-rated nature of any potential sequel. Fans can expect a darker and more mature take on the character, aligning closer to the comics, but details about the story and plot of Constantine 2 remain scant.

While waiting for news of Constantine 2, fans can take heart in knowing that Reeves’ dedication to the role of the titular character has not wavered in the least. Although he may not have the final say over the project, the actor’s dedication to the character and the fans is evident in his willingness to investigate all facets of John Constantine’s character.

Reeves’ continued success with the John Wick franchise further cements his status as an action movie icon, regardless of the sequel’s production status. Fans are hopeful for a faithful and thrilling continuation of the supernatural detective’s story on the big screen thanks to Reeves’ commitment to staying true to the source material and his passion for the character, but the project’s future is uncertain.
