The Watauga river lodge, located on the trophy section, is the ideal spot for a fishing vacation. This lodge produces gargantuan Browns, football-shaped Bows, and bug chugging Brookies. Even if you’re not a fisherman, the river lodge is a wonderful place to stay. The river lodge is nestled in a grove full of hardwoods. Two new log structures are the first phase of construction. They pay homage to the historic cabin that was built on-site in 1827. The larger structure can be divided into 3 rooms with separate entrances, 2 queen-size beds and an independent bathroom. Anglers who want to maximize their time on the water will appreciate the privacy and luxury of the second cabin building. These are other cabin options available on the property.

Range Cabin. The original cabin was built in 1861. It was later renovated in the 1980s. The owners have done extensive restoration and remodeling. This wood cabin offers two bedrooms. One has two double beds with custom log bunk beds and one has two pillow-top queens. Two full bathrooms, a living area, and a gourmet cooking area are available. It can sleep four comfortably.

Main Cabin. The main cabin building houses 3 suites. They share a full-length front porch with views of the river. Each room has its own back entry door. Each room has two queen-sized pillow-top beds, a full bathtub, and a sitting space.

Tom’s Cabin. This is a one-bedroom, standalone cabin building. It includes a full bathroom with a cutoff limestone shower, a fully equipped kitchen, two queen-sized beds, and a screened porch that has a stone gas log fireplace. It also boasts a full-length front porch with a view of the river.

The BBQ Shack. This cabin structure was formerly a fish camp shelter. It is right by the river. The owners covered the front deck and made it an outdoor kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped to cook and serve meals. This is the ideal spot for evenings on the river with a fire pit outside.

The Watauga River is located in eastern Tennessee and is considered one of the most popular trout fishing spots in the South. With over 2000 fish per mile, it is fitting that Watauga’s Cherokee translation means “a river of abundance”. The 16-mile tailwater receives cold water daily from Wilbur dam, creating an ideal environment for aquatic insects and year-round fishing. The river is home of a variety species and is flanked with pictorial farms, bluffs, and towering cliffs.
