The Warriors star’s support of Kamala Harris has caused Steph Curry’s mother Sonya Curry to express her emotional response

Steph Curry is in Paris competing with Team USA for Olympic gold. The Golden State Warriors franchise cornerstone is debuting in the quadrennial games after refusing to take that opportunity in 2016 to heal from ankle injuries. Together with LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Kevin Durant, and a star-studded roster of NBA players, the Americans are favorites to rule the tournament.

While Curry is in Europe, he has remained updated regarding the politics on home soil. He talked to the media Thursday and endorsed Kamala Harris to become the next president of the United States. Following President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the party race, Harris is expected to be the Democrat’s presidential candidate.

Sonya Curry, Steph Curry’s mother, shared on Instagram what she thought about her son’s decision to use his platform to endorse Harris:

“PROUD MOMMA!!!”

Curry had this to say to reporters when asked about his choice to succeed Biden:

“Vice President Harris is primed to bring her energy to this campaign and hopefully she’s on the ticket to winning the election but it’s a big deal, to say the least. She represents the Bay Area. She’s been a big supporter of us, so, I want to give that energy right back to her.”

For Steph Curry, he is hopeful that even though he is not involved in politics, he can contribute by playing basketball:

“Hopefully, this is a great way to do our part and continue to unify the country. Sports brings a lot of people together.”

Steph Curry backing Kamala Harris isn’t surprising

When Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors won the 2017 and 2018 NBA championships, they broke the long tradition of winners going to the White House. Then-President Donald Trump revoked his invitation after seeing the Dubs’ indecisiveness to visit his office in Washington.

Trump posted this on X, formerly Twitter, regarding his decision with the Warriors’ supposed visit:

“Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!”

LeBron James stood up for his basketball rival:

“U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain’t going! So therefore ain’t no invite. Going to the White House was a great honor until you showed up!”

With Donald Trump opposing Kamala Harris for the presidency, it wasn’t surprising to see Curry backing the Democrat.

Steve Kerr, the Golden State Warriors and Team USA coach, also has the same stance. If Trump wins and the Dubs rule the NBA again, it wouldn’t be surprising for the White House not to invite them for a get-together.
