Victor Lindelof Offers Update On Man Utd Future Ahead Of Contract Expiry

Victor Lindelof has denied rumours that Manchester United have already decided to trigger the one-year extension in his contract, but confessed he expects the Red Devils to do so soon.

Lindelof has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford but can be prevented from walking away for free if United trigger the 12-month extension clause in his current deal.

Reports have suggested that United have already decided to use their option, and while that came as news to Lindelof, the defender did concede he expects the club to active their clause in the near future.

Asked if the decision has already been taken, Lindelof told a press conference: “That’s more than I heard.

“But I have an option year and there is a deadline for it. When exactly I don’t know. But it feels quite likely that it will be activated.”

Lindelof went on to make it clear that he hopes to remain at United for the foreseeable future, opening the door to talks over a formal extension.

“Absolutely [I want to continue at United],” he added. “I enjoy myself very much.

“I am entering my seventh year at the club. I feel good and the family feels good. It’s a club that I really like, and that I love to represent.”

Lindelof spent four years as a near-permanent starter at Old Trafford before losing his place for the 2022/23 campaign, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane emerging as Erik ten Hag’s favourite defensive duo.

The 29-year-old has, however, remained Ten Hag’s preferred backup and managed 20 Premier League appearances last year, while injuries to other players have seen him handed five starts already this season.
